This Privacy Policy explains how betterDog ("betterDog," "we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards personal information in connection with betterdogshop.com (the "Site").

1. Scope

This Policy applies to personal information we collect through the Site, through our customer support channels, and through our marketing communications. It does not apply to the practices of third parties that we do not own or control.

2. Personal Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

1. Identifiers, including your name, email address, shipping address, and billing address;
2. Order and transaction information, including the products you purchase, order value, and order history;
3. Account information, if you create an account, including your login credentials;
4. Communications, including the content of messages you send to customer support;
5. Marketing preferences, including your consent to receive email; and
6. Content you submit, including reviews, photographs, and testimonials.

Information collected automatically

7. Device and connection information, including IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers;
8. Usage information, including the pages you view, the links you select, referring URLs, and the dates and times of your visits; and
9. Cookie and similar identifiers, as described in Section 6.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of thirteen (13). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact support@betterdogshop.com and we will delete it.

3. Payment Information

We do not collect or store full payment card numbers. Payment card information is collected and processed directly by our payment processors, including Shopify Payments and any additional processors we enable, each of which maintains its own privacy practices. We receive only limited transaction information, such as the card type, the last four digits, and the authorization result.

4. How We Use Personal Information

We use personal information to:

1. process, fulfill, and deliver your orders;
2. manage Auto-Refill subscriptions, including recurring billing;
3. provide customer support and respond to your inquiries;
4. send transactional communications, including order confirmations, shipping notifications, and communications about your subscription;
5. send marketing communications where you have consented, subject to your right to withdraw consent at any time;
6. operate, improve, and secure the Site, and to understand how it is used;
7. detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse of promotional offers or guarantees, and other unlawful activity; and
8. comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

5. How We Disclose Personal Information

We disclose personal information to the following categories of recipients:

1. Service providers who process personal information on our behalf and under contract, including our e-commerce platform, payment processors, subscription management provider, fulfillment and shipping carriers, email and messaging providers, customer support tools, and analytics providers;
2. Advertising and analytics partners, which may receive certain identifiers and usage information through cookies and similar technologies, as described in Section 6;
3. Professional advisors, including legal counsel and accountants, where necessary;

We do not sell personal information for monetary consideration. Our use of advertising and analytics cookies may nonetheless constitute a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, or processing for "targeted advertising," under certain state privacy laws. You may opt out as described in Section 8 and on our Your Privacy Choices page.

6. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We and our partners use cookies, pixels, tags, and similar technologies to operate the Site, to remember your cart and preferences, to measure the performance of the Site and our marketing, and to deliver advertising that may be relevant to you.

You may control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies may impair the functionality of the Site, including checkout. Where we provide a cookie consent banner, you may use it to accept or decline non-essential cookies. Most browsers also recognize the Global Privacy Control signal, which we honor as a valid opt out of targeted advertising where required by law.

Quiz and Google Analytics

We use your quiz answers to display a product recommendation. We use Google Analytics to measure site activity, including quiz progress, completion, product-page visits and purchases, to understand and improve the shopping experience. Google Analytics uses cookies or similar identifiers and collects device, browser and interaction data. Our quiz analytics include the concerns you select for your dog, your dog's life stage, your selected shopping priority, the quiz version and number of concerns selected. We share these choices with Google Analytics and associate them with browsing, checkout and purchase activity using browser identifiers to understand which choices lead to purchases and where visitors leave the quiz. We keep the latest quiz choices in browser storage and use them for this attribution for up to 30 days, subject to your analytics consent settings. We do not include your name, email address or phone number in these quiz analytics events.

7. Retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, including to maintain order and tax records, to administer subscriptions, to resolve disputes, and to comply with legal obligations. Retention periods vary by category of information and by the legal requirement that applies.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your state of residence, you may have the right to:

1. know and access the personal information we have collected about you;
2. request correction of inaccurate personal information;
3. request deletion of personal information, subject to legal exceptions;
4. obtain a portable copy of personal information you provided to us;
5. opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of processing for targeted advertising; and
6. be free from unlawful discrimination for exercising these rights.

To exercise any of these rights, email support@betterdogshop.com with the subject line "Privacy Request." We will verify your identity by confirming information associated with your account or order before responding. We will respond within the period required by applicable law. You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf, and we may require proof of that authorization.

If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our response with the subject line "Privacy Appeal." We will inform you of the outcome of the appeal and of any further recourse available to you under your state's law.

9. Marketing Communications

You may withdraw your consent to marketing email at any time by selecting the unsubscribe link in any marketing message or by emailing support@betterdogshop.com. We will continue to send transactional messages relating to your orders and subscriptions.

10. Security

We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, and alteration. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. United States Only

We sell and ship only within the United States, and we operate the Site from the United States. Personal information we collect is processed in the United States.

12. Third Party Links

The Site may contain links to third party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those websites, and this Policy does not apply to them.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may revise this Policy at any time by posting an updated version to the Site. The "Last updated" date will reflect the revision. Material changes will take effect when posted, and your continued use of the Site constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
